"I’m taking probably the biggest risk of my career in playing the part in Filth… It’s an incredible role for me, unlike anything I’ve done and a massive challenge."

- James McAvoy on Filth (via citylightsrestlessnights)

I honestly can’t wait to see how this film approaches his character.  By all accounts, he has NO redeeming qualities whatsoever; he’s a bigot, a brute, and a sexual deviant (think predilections like bestiality).   Even Brandon in Shame inspired some level of empathy because he desperately wanted to be a better man, but just couldn’t pull himself free of his destructive behavioral patterns.   I wonder if Filth will almost be a social satire, like American Psycho.   We couldn’t connect with Patrick Bateman on a human level, but we could almost make fun of his egomaniacal pathology in the context of the ridiculous white-collar world that gave birth to him.
